iPod Touch Recognized As Camera
Posted By: TechSlam - 10:15 AM
Hi
Sometimes when you plug your iPod to your computer,. it gets recognized as a camera device and not as an iPod. Well not to worry, this is a very common issue. All you have to do is change some setting and you are done.
For Windows XP:
1. Connect your iPod touch to the Windows XP computer.
2.Now click on Start menu, Select Control Panel.
3. In Control Panel, you find an option called Printers and Other Hardware. Open Printers and Other Hardware (if the Control Panel is in Classic View, skip to the next step).
4. Next open Scanners and Cameras.
5. In the Scanners and Cameras window, right-click on the Apple iPhone or Apple iPod touch and choose Properties.
6. Click the Events tab.
7. On the Select an event pop-up menu, choose Camera Connected and then select "Take no action" in the Actions area.
8.Click OK and you are done.
For Windows Vista:
1. Connect your iPod touch to the Windows Vista computer.
2. From the Start menu, click on Control Panel.
3. In Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound option.
4. In Hardware and Sound, choose AutoPlay.
5. Scroll down to section labeled "Devices" where it will list Apple iPhone or iPod touch.
6. Choose Take no action from the device pop-up menu.
7. Click Save and you are done.
If you have got any other issue regarding iPod/iTunes, feel free to leave a comment and will get back to you. Thank you.

I have an ipod nano with integrated camera. It worked fine for a while now whenever i connect it tothe pc itunes says that an ipod has been detected but has not been recoognized, whilst windows briefly recoginizes it as a 'picture' device. I havetried your previous advice relating to a similar issue with the ipod touch but there is no events tab under properties. I have returned it to the store several times and they said it is not an issue with the ipod itself please could you help? thanks
Hi
When i returned it to the store they synced it with their computer to check whether it was an issue withthe ipod or with my computer, and it synced fine with their pc. It seems that my pc is now recognizing it purely as a camera rather than an ipod. I would very much appreciate your help
thanks

I have an award for you, please claim it on my blog. Thanks.^^
I have an 1G iPod touch with 2.2 firmware, Ive been really lazy on upgrading it.
Today I decided to upgrade so when my iPod was connected to iTunes I clicked upgrade and everything seemed to be working fine ( It was upgrading to 3.1.2). It finished downloading and i clicked to install, It almost completely installed when It said and error occurred and could not upgrade.
So, I reloaded iTunes and it said that I needed to restore my iPod, so I clicked restore. It restored to 2.2.1 firmware, which at the time I thought was fine but now when I go to upgrade it tries to charge me $4.95 for the 3.1.2 firmware which I ALREADY DOWNLOADED. Now I'm super frustrated and I'm not sure what to do, I have no money so its not like I can buy the upgrade :/

Have the same problem, when i connected my new 32gb ipod touch it is being recognised as a camera.. I tried the above solution but when I opened up the scanners and cameras folder the "Apple IPod" wasn't there. I'm using windows xp, I don't know what to do and help would be greatly appreciated
Keep your iPod plugged in and restart your computer and try the above steps again. Let me know if still face the same issue
Ok, I've done that now and i selected take no action, but its still not being recognised as an ipod. I tried goin into device manager and tried to update the driver and choose the usbappl.sys driver but it still wouldn't work and just selected the digital still camera driver instead. Getting really stressed, any other ideas about what to do?
i already tried all that but it is still not being read by i tunes what should i do? thanks!
I have the same issue as Aaron B above. When I connect my I-Touch to my WIN-XP or Vista for that matter ( I sync to 2 machines) my touch is recognized as a digital camera not a drive. ITunes opens automatically when connected and operates normally. I performed the steps recommended and now ITunes doesn't even auto open. Any other suggestions?
I have this problem too. Tried updating the driver and clicked take no action and to no avail. I refuse to resync my ipod because there are valuable songs on there i can't find anywhere else and are out of print and unavailable for download. help!
i have the same problem with my ipod being recognised as a digital camera, however my ipod will sync music but i can not recover any hidden folders to transfer my music from my ipod to my computer:( HELLLLLLLP!"""
so ive updated the driver as well as changed the settings on the control panel but my pc still recognizes my ipod touch as a camera, so i cant access any of the information directly on the ipod. its syncs just fine with itunes and all that, i just cant directly access songs etc on my ipod with itunes. any tips?
I have Windows 7, and it doesn't give me the option to 'Take No Action'
