Unknown error:1303, 53, 48 (Device Cannot Be Read Or Written To) While Syncing iPod
Posted By: TechSlam - 9:51 AM
"I am desperate. Every time I try to hook up my 80gigabyte classic ipod one of three error codes pop up and won't let me: 1303, 53, or 48. I cannot update the ipod or sync it. It says the device cannot be read or written to. It costs $30 to call Apple tech support. Help?"
Hi
I do understand your desperation as your iPod is not working fine.As I understand you have an iPod Classic 80GB and every time you try to sync or update your iPod with iTunes, you get some unknown error codes(1303,53,48) and also an error message pops up "Device Cannot Be Read Or Written To".
Well This is a very common error faced by many iPod users. There are many reasons for these error pop up.I assume that your iPod plays the music fine, charges well. The main reason behind this issue is a corrupted music file which is in your iTunes music library and every time you try to auto sync your iPod, these corrupted file will cause this error pop up. So all you need to do is look for that particular music file which is causing this trouble. Now the question is how to look for that music file? All you need to do is, put your iPod in manually manage mode and try syncing songs manually one by one into your iPod by drag and drop, and the moment you try dragging and dropping the corrupted music file, you will get this error, just delete this file and try same steps until you are pretty sure that there are no more corrupted music files. In most case this will resolve your issue. In case if this step does not resolve your issue, then you have to try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it again by downloading it from iTunes Free Download and then try restoring your iPod, This will be formatting your iPod completely and this is necessary because in case your iPod software is corrupted which is causing these issue, then restoring will resolve your issue.
Please feel free to leave your comments in case you need further assistances from me. Thank You

This isn't a corrupt file, as I keep getting this message, but my iPod only does it when I've reached over 1.04gb of data on my iPod.
Say I want to put the file Bob Dylan - All Along the Watchtower onto my iPod:
If the iPod is empty - it works fine. No error.
If the iPod has more than 1.04gb of data on it? ERROR (-1303) or sometimes (-69)
I have DONE the 5 R's, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, updated, reset, restored - NOTHING WORKS.
EXPLAIN THAT. Don't just type whatever Crapple are telling you.
I'm NEVER buying anything from them ever again.

i have same prob& error codes with classic gb120. Also restored & reinstalled. I have tried sync on diff pcs with diff songs but same probs.
same prob here with 120gb classic
no sync and errors (mostly 1303, sometimes 69 and others)
no sync and errors (mostly 1303, sometimes 69 and others)
I'm having the same problem. I lost 73GB of music when my 80GB Classic crashed for no reason. Fortunately it's all backed up. I've reformatted several times still no luck. All the music on my iPod is either purchased from iTunes of loaded from store bought CDs. I've run a check on the volume with Kaspersky and nothing shows up corrupted or and bad sectors.... Anyone else go any ideas.
Guys, I can confirm this.
I've isolated the file. But i can not even properly copy it to another location from the finder so I guess I just going to have to delete it and purchase it again. And the way I found it was that I tried syncing the whole music library and it stopped always at the same song. It did it when I connected my iPod Classic and with my iPhone.
Best of luck to you all! I also tried the whole shebang (restoring, reïnstalling,...) before and nothing worked. Which makes sense if think of it.

Same problem here.
not buying I-pods to my kids ever again

This is NOT a corrupted file, as the files I've been trying to load worked just fine on my 30gb. What is it with Apple users all reposting the same failed explanations anyway? I've been getting these same errors and I know for a fact it's not the files, it's the fact that Apple put out an overpriced low quality piece of garbage with the 80gb classic. Go to the nearest CVS, buy whatever cheap ass $30 mp3 player they have. I guarantee it will be a higher quality product with better customer service. Eat a dick Steve Jobs, this is why your company is still a joke compared to Microsoft.
I HAVE HAD IT WITH APPLE... I knew I should have bought a zen
I keep getting the errors 1303 and 69, and I tried isolating the file and deleting it, but then it just finds another file that's corrupted... I bought all my music from iTunes and I'm not about to delete it all
Apple, you are pricks... that is all

Ha. Same problem. Yet another iPod Classic, too. Same error codes. Hours upon hours of doing the 5 R's. It doesn't matter which ones you isolate and delete... The codes still pop up. Such a huge freaking waste of money. My sister has an older generation that is just 30 GB. It has no problems synching the very same songs. No errors on hers whatsoever.
Thank God I'm not the only one suffering from this affliction.

SAME damn error!!!!!! Syncs to my ipod fine, my cousin has same exact one as me and guess what....IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!! The 5 r's are bull****!!!!!
yep same problem with 120gb classic...warranty is long expired but I think I'm still gonna go to the apple store tomorrow and demand a fix or a new ipod....fuck it
Same problem as everyone else, and it is not a corrupt file, it has happened sinc itunes 10.3.
There are streams of reports about this all over the net, Apple don't seem bothered....... prob too busy with Iphones and ipads.....sorry apple but people still use your other products (which are current, you still sell them) so please offer some decent support and release a patch to resolve this issue, stop repeating the same old line of 5 r's etc, it's wearing thin

this problem is with your hard drive as when it reach a sector of the hard disk it will stop as the sector is bad, meaning you need to replace the hard drive.
