Hi
Today I will be giving step by step instruction on how to restore your iPod Touch.
Follow the step by step instruction given below to restore your iPod to factory settings.(These steps can also be used to Restore iPhone)

1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed in your computer. Its always recommended to use latest iTunes version all the time.
2. Connect your iPod touch to your computer's USB port using the USB cable.
3. Your iPod touch will then show up under the DEVICES in iTunes. Select your iPod.
4. Select the Summary tab from the top menu.
5. Select the Restore option.
6. It will then prompt you to backup your iPod Touch settings. Follow the on screen instruction to back up the settings.
7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you.
8. Once the restore process has completed the iPod Touch will Restarts and you will see an apple logo showing up in the iPod screen.
9. Then it will promt you to select any one from the two option "Set up as new iPod" or "Restore from backup". Select your option and then continue.

Once you are done with these steps, your iPod touch is restored to the factory settings.

itunes is such a piece of shit. Even w/o anyone else writing software for them and all the constant updates and the fact I have to give them a credit card to log in the shit still does not work.

I just bought an ipod touch 3rd gen and it had firmware 3.11 installed. Now I ported all my apps and music np problems then I decided to update to firmware to 3.12 It comes up with error 14, says it is in recovery mode but will not allow me to recover back to 3.11 (only buttons it says is "recover and update" or "cancel") I keep getting error 14. Also I tried the steps above and they do not work. Any help be appreciated.

My Ipod (first gen) isn't listed under devices, or anywhere, when I connect it to itunes? I got the prompt that I had to recover the ipod, went through the steps, got the 1604 error, and since then itunes won't detect the ipod. Sometimes I get the "connect to itunes" symbol, sometimes just a blank screen. Worked perfectly for nearly a year. WTF?
when I burn a CD to my itunes library i frequently get duplicate song files for the entire disc. WTF?
I should have said OF the entire disc...each song title shows up twice in my itunes library. there must be a better way besides manually deleting them..
I cannot get my iTouch to restore. It seems to be stuck in recovery mode and I've tried two different computers, both updated to iTunes 10.1.1.4 and I cannot get it to do anything. How can I force a restore?
I attempt to restore my ipod and it keeps coming back "unable to restore error 1611". what do i do?

I have a Ipod touch first generation 8G. I was restoring the touch and iTunes gave me this error. I got the error right when iTunes was putting the newest software on the Ipod. A window popped up and closed before I could even read what caused the error. Now the computer will not acknowledge that the Ipod is plugged into the USB port.

-Thanks
I bought an Ipod touch 4th generation that was used as a demo, it's gently used. It worked well for a week then I let the battery go super low and now it won't charge. It displays a black battery with a small red line on it and a white bolt beneath it that's the only thing that show's up on the screen. It will not let me restore it just gives me the error 1604. I'm using the newest version of Itunes. The computer won't recognize the ipod when it's plugged in nor will my computer. My son's ipod touch shows up in my computer and not in itunes.

Hello--my daughter had an ipod touch 3rd gen. She bought a 4th gen from ebay and it has come to us password protected. We want to restore it--can i just follow all the instructions for your restore or is that for someone who has the password and just wants to restore?
99% of the time it's the usb cable itself. I've had same problem. Went bought new ipod then just because plugged in new cable. old ipod worked just fine.
Can i restore the password only to get apps and stuff??
i cant find the "summary option" wth do i do?
