iPod Touch Not Recognized In iTunes
Posted By: TechSlam - 9:08 PM
Hi.
Today I will be writing about a very common issue with the iPod Touch and that is, iPod not showing up in iTunes.
Most of the time when we plug our iPod Touch to the computer, iTunes will pop up and the iPod gets recognized in iTunes and then we can go about syncing the iPod with our favorite musics and applications.
At the same time due to some reasons, the iPod will never show up in iTunes and we get worried.
Here is the best solution to get this issue fixed.
The steps here will be time consuming one, buts its pretty much sure that it will help you fix the issue. There are few additional steps included to take care of certain small issues which you might face during the troubleshooting of the issue.
1. Make sure your iPod is fully charged. When you plug your iPod to the USB port of your computer, check what does it show in the iPod display. Usually it will show charging/do not disconnect message. If it shows this message , it means your iPod is well and fine and the issue is with iTunes.(GoTo Step )
2. If iPod display does not show anything, but the normal main menu with icons, then we have to follow following steps to get things fixed.
3.Reset your iPod Touch by following the steps given HERE.
4. Try plugging your iPod in different USB ports and check out if iTunes recognizes your iPod.
5. Update USB driver by following steps given HERE.
6. Put your iPod in the RECOVERY MODE by clicking HERE.
7.If you do not see an iPod driver or Apple mobile device driver in the device manager list, then we will have to restart Apple Mobile Device. Click HERE. to restart the Apple Mobile Device.
8. After you do this, you have to restart your computer leaving your connected to the computer.
Additional steps you can try are:
* Try different USB cable, to check if the issue is with the cable
* Try on a different computer which is running iTunes 8.0 or later.
Still you are facing the same issue, well it seems something is seriously wrong. Why dont you call APPLE TECHNICAL SUPPORT to get a FREE replacement or repair only if your iPod is within one year of its one year hardware coverage period.

Hello Mohammed, THANK YOU for all your efforts in solving this problem; the answer was VERY simple. My wife and I recently purchased Belkin chargers for our iPods- they allow us to charge from the car, home (110v), or computer. What I didn't realized, was that they WILL NOT sync your iPod to a computer, only charge it! When I switched between cables to try different ones, I was switching between the two Belkin charging cables (which look IDENTICAL to the apple cables except it says BELKIN on one end). I found a third cable (an apple cable) and BINGO!! Don't I feel like an idiot- LOL!
That being said, I wonder if you have any experience with the WI-FI side of the Itouch? I have one other problem- I can easily connect to my Linksys router with my 32gig iPod, but cannot for the life of me connect with my wifes 8gig Itouch. It simply gives me the message "Unable to join ______ " (the network I'm trying to connect to).
Sorry for wasting your time on the previous problem, I really appreciate your help!

Oh my goodness Shawn! Thank you so much for that! I was trying to figure out why I was having this issue and it was because I was also using a Belkin charger (they do look a lot like the apple cable). I had given my apple charger away to someone since i thought the Belkin charger would do same as the Apple charger, plus it has a longer cord. Thanks again!
i did the same thing i just recently bought a belkin wall charger (because i lost my apple one) and i would plug it in and the ipod would charge and the picture would show up in my computer but it wasnt wasnt syncing or anything. thank you so much for this i was starting to get worried.
i just got a new one and lost the usb cord so how do i make the connect to itunes go away so i can use it!
if my ipod is well, what step number do i go to?
when i plug my new ipod touch into my pc it makes a recognition beep but then the screen continues to display a usb plugging into itunes and does not register on itunes.
Lisa, You will have to try either reseting the iPod or restoring the iPod, try the link below : http://ipod-genius.blogspot.com/2009/07/ipod-touc...
I was having trouble with my IPOD touch showing up in ITUNES. I tried all the steps on every webpage I could find. Re-installing, updating, recovery, restore, you name it. I disabled my wireless and hooked up the touch and everything worked fine. I have to disable it everytime, but its definitely easier than all these other steps. Hope this helps someone.
my ipod touch wont show up in itunes or any computer i plug it into, although my ipod does charge when i plug it into the wall charger. I know its not the cables either because i tried three different ones and they all work fine with the wall charger... im pretty sure the problem has to do with the ipod. i cant even restore it because it wont show up in itunes..oh and i also reset the ipod like a dozen times and nothing changed
If u want to restore it, try this:
Unplug ipod from computer and turn it off.
Now hold the center button while plugging the ipod into your computer.
It will appear in recovery mode and u can restore and update it.

My Ipod touch shows up in my computer but not in iTunes. I'm using iTunes 10.2 and running windows 7.
When I first got the Ipod it worked with iTunes but then a few days later i tried it again but it didn't show up in ITunes.
Anyone knows how to resolve this?
